Tonight: Of Montreal

Touring in support of their most recent release "Paralytic Stalks" Of Montreal stumbles out of Athens,Ga to bring their psychedelic indie rock cabaret to stage. If find myself lamenting over the fact these guys weren't around back in the days I was eating acid by the sheet. Though in those days I lived off a steady diet of Skinny Puppy. Not that i endorse the consumption of hallucinogens in a public forum, but if I were to I would strongly suggest Of Montreal as your soundtrack. I have heard them tagged as being a prog band akin to Yes, and this would be a gross misnomer. I would classify them as a throw back to 60's art rock, as they don't place the emphasis on virtuosity. Instead a glam tinged swirl of British postured retro rock, the melodies swagger almost poppy song structure in a way that is pleasing to the brain cells I burned out shortly after college. If their entire discography was played on shuffle, the songs would blend just as well as they do on their respective albums, this would make for a satisfying live experience, though lends weight to the argument if you have heard one Of Montreal you have heard them all. Though their newest album contains my favorite lyric of the year from the song "We want to commit wolf murder" in the line "I want to get all fucked up and tell you how I really feel/Because your vibrant blackness coco artery is so unreal" ...took the words right out of my mouth. This show will totally before worth your $20.00 buck for the sheer spectacle openers Kishi Bashi and Loney Dearcrank up the jams at the Variety Playhouse around 8:30
